LO 9-05: Identify and describe the purpose, construction, and operation of components used in the valve train.

Valve Train Components

Valve trains refer to the mechanisms that control the gas flow into and out of cylinders through the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves. Valve trains in four-stroke-cycle engines include a crankshaft-driven camshaft operating at half the engine speed. This next section examines the principal components of the valve train mechanisms.
